Program Feedback
I had a lot of anxiety coming to the program due to not knowing what it would bring or expose. I now highly recommend this program knowing I have nothing to worry about. It was fun, educational and informative. It taught me how to better communicate with my spouse." These techniques seem to be helpful in building communication skills & helping us overcome stressful obstacles" |
This program taught me the ability to analyze our problems (peel the onion) find underlying reason/causes and to communicate without anger. Don't spend years in frustration and heartbreak. This program teaches techniques to truly build each other up, reach your dreams together and set a good example for your children, family members and friends. Thank you so much!" We learned how to open topics of conversation that have been suppressed for years without fear of rejection or ridicule." |
Relationships require work and attention. The program provides those tools to help fine tune the relationship. Understanding the 4 horseman with their antidotes was my biggest takeaway." We learned how to break topics down into small bites to address bigger issues, how to soften our approach and stay mindful & respectful of each others perspective." |
FAQ's
What type of couples is this program for?
Couples of all ages, incomes, races, nationalities, professions, religions, abilities, and orientations attend our workshops. Couples attend who already have a strong, healthy relationship, and couples attend to repair relationship damage and get back on track. Parents sometimes attend who have decided to end their relationship but want to do so in a way that doesn’t negatively impact their children, and receive skills to become healthy co-parents moving forward. We welcome all couples who want to work on making their relationship stronger.
Can we participate even if we aren't married?
Yes. All couples are welcome. This may, in fact, be the best time to work on and build upon your relationship!
Is this program appropriate for premarital couples?
Yes. We strongly encourage engaged couples to go through the program as premarital preparation.
Can I give the program as a gift to someone else?
Yes. Gift certificates are available upon request.
Can I participate in the program alone if I can’t convince my partner?
No. The program is intended for couples. Approximately 1/2 of the program is dedicated to exercises that you will do as a couple during the sessions.
How can I convince my partner to do the program with me?
Each couple is different and we are unable to provide specific advice about how to convince your partner to go through the program or seek counseling. However, many individuals have found that a good place to start is by sharing some of the research and videos on the Gottman website with their partners. Dr. Gottman’s bestselling book The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work is also a great way to become acquainted with the research and the Gottman Method.
Are we appropriate for your program if we don’t have any really huge problems?
Yes. Couples who go through the program tend to fall into two categories: enhancement and repair. We applaud couples who are wise enough to go through the program for enhancement purposes. Our brains are more open to new learning when we are not stressed out, and our program is designed with plenty of humor and romance, so enhancement couples have a terrific time while learning. Feedback from both enhancement and repair couples indicates that the couples program is very beneficial.
Should I do anything to prepare?
There are no prerequisites to start the program. The program is self-contained and is appropriate even if you’ve never heard of Dr. John Gottman and his work.
What is the Relationship Check Up?
The Gottman Relationship Checkup is an online tool that is comprised of 337 questions which cover five categories of importance to healthy and satisfying relationships. Each partner is provided a private (and separate) link to the Checkup, and once each partner has completed the questions, a report is generated with the results of your current relationship health. This report is sent directly to Denise and she will then provide an outline of the results of your assessment to you. This assessment is used to personalize the program and work specifically on the issues that are troubling the relationship.
Should we read The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work before attending?
The program is self-contained; no pre-reading is required. Some couples report that reading The Seven Principles enhanced their experience by providing a foundation in the research concepts and applications.
